AU: When Dean finds Castiel, almost a year after what happened at the lake, Castiel has no memory of a life before he settled down with his new family. Dean doesn’t know if telling him the truth about who he is would be the right thing to do, so one night he follows Cas to his home and spies on him through the window. Dean sees a reflection of a life he knew not so long ago through the glass, and in that moment he decides to let Castiel go. When Dean sees the smile on Castiel’s face when he holds the little girl, the ease with which he kisses the woman, he knows he could never take that away from someone… even if it’s a lie. Dean is happy for him, really… but deep down he questions how a fallen angel can hold onto the apple pie life better than he ever did.
I can’t help feeling it might actually be really nice if this is what happened.
