It’s true that there’s really nothing that could make Riker less interesting. But I think that might actually be good for RP-ing, having a fairly blank canvas that wants to be a Kirk-figure but absolutely is not. You could make him all flawed and self-loathing and glorious. He could have had posters of Kirk on his wall as a kid and cry at night about how unKirkly he turned out, with a double layer there because Kirk was not really as Kirkly as history remembered him within the ‘verse.
Stop making me want things, dammit. Because Wesley thinks Riker is totally Kirkly because Wesley is never gonna be Kirk and knows it and has a clearer view of what that means because he has his own problems (and is more clever than Riker) and he finds Riker crying and…
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yesssssssssssssss. And see, Riker would feel all the more unworthy and self-loathing and a failure after he trips and falls on Wesley’s innocent teenage virtue. I’m just saying. There could be such amazing angst and inadequacy complexes battling it out.
